Speaking at the event, Binh said trafficaccidents decreased in number of cases, fatalities and injured victims from2012 – 2017. In 2017, traffic accidents claimed 8,279lives, 406 fewer than 2016, marking the greatest single year reduction since2013. He asked the National Traffic SafetyCommittee, ministries, agencies, mass organisations and authorities ofcentrally-run cities and provinces to abide by the Secretariat of the CommunistParty of Vietnam Central Committee’s Decree on strengthening Party leadershipon ensuring safety and order of road, railway and inland waterway traffic, theGovernment’s resolution on adopting key measures to ensure traffic safety andorder and instructions from Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.The Deputy PM requested fulfilling key tasksthis year, including refining mechanisms on traffic safety, modernisingequipment for traffic police and inspectors, restructuring and improving publictransport services and using modern technology in transport management, amongothers. Police in Ho Chi Minh City have arrested two Vietnamese men in a drugs trafficking ring between Cambodia and Vietnam, seizing 10 kilograms (22 lb) of methamphetamine, while more than 7 kg of ecstasy delivered to Hanoi by courier service from overseas have also been intercepted. The Vietnam Airlines (VNA) has recently launched a new direct air route from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Shanghai. Vietnam Airlines will provide three flights a week departed from Hanoi, on every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, and four flights a week departed from Ho Chi Minh City, on every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday to this Chinese city. Hanoi Statistics Office reported on February 22 that the CPI for Hanoi in February rose by 0.47% against the previous month and 1.73% year-on-year.The CPI this month gained the highest increase since September 2014, the office said.This month, the city saw the highest growth in prices at 2.45% from the goods group of restaurant and catering services.
