Workers in Binh Duong province line up to get on a coach to return home (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Free coaches sponsored by tradeunion organisations and local authorities are bringing thousands of migrant workersback to their hometowns as the Lunar New Year festival (Tet) is only a few daysaway.On February 11, hundreds of coaches departedfrom Thang Long, Quang Minh, Noi Bai, Thach That, and Phu Thi industrial parks inHanoi, carrying workers to their hometowns.2018 is the 10th consecutive year the HanoiConfederation of Labour arranged coaches for disadvantaged workers ahead ofTet.Aside from the free coaches, trade unions at alllevels in Hanoi also assisted labourers with more than 32,000 bus tickets,presented 56,500 gift packages, and organised Tet celebrations. Vietnam will use all means necessary to return its labourers home from Libya, even hiring military aircraft from neighbouring countries. At a meeting on February 28 in Hanoi, Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, appointed rescue teams with the mandate to use all means of transport, including airplanes and ships to take the Vietnamese nationals back home. She added that, in necessary cases, military aircraft should be hired from China, South Korea and Malaysia in order to bring Vietnamese citizens back to safety. The Ho Chi Minh City Export Processing and Industrial Zone Authority (HEPZA) have announced free bus tickets for cash-strapped employees to return to their hometowns for the Tet Lunar New Year holiday in January. HCM City and other southern provinces need thousands of labours, mostly manual workers in industries such as textiles, footwear, wood processing and electronics after Tet (the Lunar New Year). According to the Dong Nai Province's Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, over 500 enterprises said they would recruit more than 30,000 workers after Tet. Among them, FDI enterprises need 25,000 employees. The recruitment demand is high in textile, footwear and wood processing sectors.
