Visitors to Hoi An ancient town (Photo: VNA) Quang Nam (VNA) – A solar energy-based electricity supply system is set to be put intooperation on February 9 at the An Hoi statue garden in Hoi An city, the centralprovince of Quang Nam, after two years of construction.The launch takes place on the occasion of the fifth twinning anniversary betweenHoi An and Germany’s Wernigerode city. The project had a total investment of 145,000 EUR, of which 90 percent camefrom the German government.Under the project, solar panelsare installed in the Song Hoai square, capable of producing 51kWh ofelectricity for lighting and decorations for entertainment activities likestreet arts, folk games, decorative lanterns, and the Cau bridge relic. Vice Chairman of the Hoi An People’s Committee Nguyen Van Son said theproject contributes to deepening cooperation between Hoi An and Wernigerodecities.In addition, it also will encourage the use of renewable energy and help to mitigateimpacts of climate change, as well as develop sustainable tourism of Hoi An,turning it into an eco city.-VNA
City launches solar vehicle contest By Le Minh Khue in HCMC HCMC Department of Science and Technology in conjunction with HCMC Television has launched a contest to design a solar vehicle. The contest is open to all individuals and organizations in Vietnam. Participants have to design and assemble a vehicle using only 244wp of solar energy battery provided by Mat Troi Do Energy JSC. At the launching ceremony there were 30 teams from HCMC, Vinh Long, Danang and Dong Nai registering to enter. (VEN) - Schneider Electric put into operation a 40KWp solar power system on May 21 at the XP Power Factory's office building in Binh Duong Province. Built for 12 weeks at a total cost of US$150,000 the medium-sized solar power project, a joint venture between the private company of XP Power and Schneider Electric, became the first project of this kind in Vietnam. The European Union and the Da Nang Energy Conservation Center (DEEC) launched a project entitled “Development of Solar Energy in Da Nang” (DSED) on November 3.Co-funded by the EU and the DECC, the $517,000 project will run for 40 months, from July this year until October 2020. Hoi An yesterday launched its new solar power public lighting system in the city's Hoai River Square. Renewable lighting sources have been added to world heritage sites across the central region with funding from Asiana Airlines as part of an initiative aimed at promoting sustainable tourism. The system has been installed in Hue, Cham Islands and My Son Sanctuary in collaboration with the Korean International Co-operation Agency (KOICA), Korean National Commission for UNESCO and the UNESCO office in Ha Noi.
