A performance by artists of Tran Huu Trang Cai Luong Theater. Artists of the Tran Huu Trang Cai Luong Theater re-enacted the Vietnamese people’s struggles against foreign invaders and the Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory in which half a million Qing troops were defeated in the spring of 1789. Bui Thi Mai, a resident of District 4, Ho Chi Minh City, said: “The program recalled how our ancestors defended and built the nation. We need to remember this and continue to uphold the awareness on national defense.”
The celebration was attended by former President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Pham The Duyet, Deputy Minister of National Defence and senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Huy Hieu, municipal leaders and representatives from centrally-run sectors. The event took place with an incense-offering ceremony in commemoration of national hero Nguyen Hue who proclaimed himself Emperor Quang Trung and those who laid down their life for national independence 219 years ago. In his speech, Chairman of Dong Da district’s People’s Committee Vo Nguyen Phong recalled the great significance of the victory saying it was one of the greatest victories in national struggles against foreign invaders. A ceremony was held at the Dong Da park in Ha Noi on Monday (the fifth day of the new lunar year) to celebrate the 215th anniversary of the Ngoc Hoi - Dong Da victory. Tens of thousands of people across Vietnam gathered at the Quang Trung Museum in Tay Son District of the central province of Binh Dinh to celebrate the 223rd anniversary of Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da Victory on Jan 26, the fourth day of the Lunar New Year. The victory was dedicated to three brothers Nguyen Nhac, Nguyen Hue and Nguyen Lu of the district. They were together known as Tay Son Brothers. A festival was held at the Dong Da Park in Hanoi on February 23 to mark the 226th anniversary of the Ngoc Hoi–Dong Da Victory over the Chinese Qing invaders. The victorious battle was led by national hero Nguyen Hue (also known as Emperor Quang Trung).
