Vietnam ought to learn about global climate change policies, while studying and selecting suitable solutions for mitigating climate change impacts at home, they said. The experts agreed to help Vietnamese companies overhaul production technologies, make a technology reference list and define demand for specific technology packages. Ninh Khac Ban, head of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology’s Department of International Cooperation, said Vietnam has received support from the international community in addressing climate change issues via bilateral and multilateral cooperative projects. A quick reduction of HFCs could help slow climate change, avoiding 0.5 degrees Celsius of a projected rise in average temperatures by 2100. Nearly 200 nations hammered out a legally binding deal to cut back on greenhouse gases used in refrigerators and air conditioners, a Rwandan minister announced to loud cheers on Saturday, in a major step against climate change. The deal, which includes the world's two biggest economies, the United States and China, divides countries into three groups with different deadlines to reduce the use of factory-made hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) gases, which can be 10,000 times more powerful than carbon…... (VOVworld) - Nearly 200 nations agreed this week to a legally binding deal to cut back greenhouse gases, a major move against climate change, in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. The deal, which includes the world's two biggest economies, the United States and China, divides countries into three groups with different deadlines for reducing HFC gases, which can be 10,000 times worse than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas. Under the pact, developed nations, including much of Europe and the United States, commit to reducing their use of the gases incrementally, starting with a 10 percent cut by 2019 and…... [read more]
Vietnam is looking to building a low-carbon rice industry through 2020, as heard during an agricultural forum in Vi Thanh city in the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang on May 5th. The Mekong Delta region, the country’s largest rice granary, annually contributes more than 50 percent of the total domestic yield and 92 percent of the national rice export volume. The industry emits a large amount of methane, which is known for its warming effect. According to Phan Huy Thong, Head of the National Agricultural Extension Centre, local farmers have long run small-scale businesses with higher production cost and…... [read more]
A scheme to collect millions of tonnes of greenhouse gases and bury them under the North Sea off the coast of Rotterdam is Europe's best hope of showing it can make carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology work. Rotterdam, Europe's largest port, is the home to the sole survivor of a dozen European Union pilot plans to test CCS technology that has been thwarted by years of false starts. Fossil fuel and mining firms need to make CCS work if they are to avoid being left with "stranded assets", or energy resources whose value has to be written off because…... [read more]
Vietnamhopes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 8 per cent a year by 2030.This is equal to about 787.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide. A rice farming project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Kien Giang. Deputy Minister of Nature Resources and Environment TranHong Ha announced this yesterday at a conference in Hanoi. He addedthat the figure could increase to 25 per cent if there was moreinternational support. The conference was called to announce the Intended NationallyDetermined Contributions (INDC) that Vietnam submitted to the UnitedNations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat inSeptember.
