Various areas across Vietnam are being impacted by cold spells, causing the mercury to plunge to less than 20 degrees Celsius in the southern region and down to -0.8 degrees Celsius in the north. According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the temperature in southern provinces decreased by one to two degrees on Tuesday morning. The lowest temperature was recorded at 17.3 degrees Celsius in Ta Lai Commune, Dong Nai Province. Average lows in other southern provinces ranged between 18 and 21 degrees Celsius. In Ho Chi Minh City, mercury plummeted to 21 degrees Celsius, resulting in a chilly atmosphere during the early morning. It is expected to be even cooler on Wednesday morning as the snap continues to strengthen, said Le Dinh Quyet, deputy head of the Southern Weather Forecast Station. The lowest temperature is anticipated to be approximately 17 to 18 degrees Celsius in the region, Quyet elaborated, adding that it could get as low as 19 degrees Celsius in Ho Chi Minh City. Unseasonal rain is expected to continue in southern Vietnam on Tuesday, while temperature in northern localities will plummet due to the presence of a cold snap. Weather experts say global warming not only warms the world, it also brings colder extreme weather. A newly formed storm is heading towards the East Vietnam Sea and is expected to impact the country’s southern region sometime over the next few days.
