NDO/VNA – Vietnam’s futsal team lost to Uzbekistan 1-3 in the quarter-finals of the Asian Football Confederation Futsal Championship in Taipei, China on February 8. Mashrab Adillov opened the scoreboard for Uzbekistan at the 12th minute. The second score for the team was made at the 28th minute in the second half. Seconds later, Trong Luan scored for Vietnam, but Uzbekistan managed the third goal in the last minute of the match. The semi-final matches between Iraq and Japan, and Iran and Uzbekistan will take place on February 9.
Vietnam will join nine other nations to compete in Asian Futsal Championship 2006 qualifiers to kick off in April. Only three places to the finals are available for the ten entrants. The ten teams are divided into two qualifiers groups competing in two venues. Hosts Vietnam were eliminated from the 2014 Asian Futsal Championship after losing 4-15 to ten time champions Iran in their quarterfinal match in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday. Phuoc Anh made many fatal mistakes while his Iranian counterpart put up an effective and outstanding fight. Vietnam created at least ten clear chances to score but only succeeded with four. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) this week expressed satisfaction with Vietnam's preparatory work to host the 7th Asian Futsal Championship 2005 after an AFC delegation surveyed the host's venues for the event. Mohd Saifuddin Bakar, AFC representative, said he highly appreciated the organizational work by Vietnam as well as the high spirit of local volunteers. Vietnam crushed Uzbekistan 3-0 in the opening Group Women’s U23 Volleyball Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. Japanese-born coach Irisawa Hidehiro used his best players for this match including Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Nguyen Thi Trinh and Dang Thi Kim Thanh, and they quickly won their rival 25-14, 25-17, 25-16. The poor performance of the futsal teams attending the HCMC Futsal Open 2005 has raised concerns and worries among fans about Vietnam hosting the Asian Futsal Championship in May 2005. The players in all eight teams attending the HCMC Futsal Open 2005 are all amateurs and come from grassroots clubs in the country.
