The official expressed his hope that Hippler will contribute further to enhancing cooperation between German universities and their counterparts in HCM City, as well as cooperative activities in scientific research, especially in scientific and technological application in urban development. For his part, Hippler applauded educational collaboration between Germany and Vietnam, including partnerships between their universities, pledging that he will work to further boost cooperation in higher education. According to the Professor, apart from training, the Vietnam-Germany University has great opportunities to participate in HCM City’s development projects. HCM City steps up saving energy (03-05-2008) HCM CITY — The HCM City People's Committee recently issued a directive in an effort to reduce power consumption among customers. Under the decision, agencies and companies receiving benefits from the State budget must reduce their power consumption by 10 per cent. The HCMC Electricity Company will be responsible for turning off 50 per cent of public lights at streets, parks and other public spaces. However, the traffic light system will be unaffected. HCM City’s Vietnam-Germany Friendship Association President Tran Thanh Long made the remarks at a meeting in the city on October 2 to mark the 23rd anniversary of German reunification. Long said Germany remains Vietnam’s biggest European Union trade partner with two-way trade turnover reaching nearly US$6 billion in 2012.
